Applying CNN-based Segmentation Methods for Tomography Images: U-Net Architecture

CSC 4700: Applied Deep Learning

This assignment was part of my computer science applied deep learning class. One area in computer vision is called semantic segmentation, which is used here in this application of labeling x-ray tomography images of a metallic sample. The goal of semantic segmentation is to perform pixel-wise classification labeling. In this project, the separate classes are “background metal”, and the features “pore” and “crack”. The goal of this assignment was to build an AI model using U-Net architecture to perform this segmentation task. This project's Python code is included in the "Technological" section.

Early Warning System Fault Detection in a CSTR Process with the Use of Data Mining and a Thermodynamic-based Model

CHE 7120: Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics

This paper was the term project for my graduate-level thermodynamics course. For this project, the students were tasked with identifying a problem in our research area that can be solved on the basis of the material studied in the course. My area of interest is process controls and the use of data mining and machine learning to better operate industrial systems, so in this paper, I discuss the use of data mining to develop a fault detection system in a CSTR.

Linear Programming and Optimization

CSC 4512: Optimization Approaches in Computer Science: Algorithms and Applications

These reports were part of two assignments from my computer science optimization course. The goal of the first assignment below was to get familiarized with some important algorithmic issues regarding the solution of linear programming (LP) problems and the goal of the other project was to explore difference approaches for developing optimization algorithms as well as heuristics. Each projects' Python code is included in the "Technological" section.

Data Clustering and Decision Trees

CSC 7740: Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery from Datasets

These reports were part of two projects for my graduate-level data mining course. The goal of the first project linked below was to explore some fundamental issues regarding data clustering and the goal of the other project below was to explore critical issues related to the inference and use of decision trees. Each projects' Python code is included in the "Technological" section.

Plant-wide Control System Proposal of Ethylene Cracking Plant Simulation

CHE 4171: Senior Plant Design

This paper was my undergraduate honors thesis, based on my work in Plant Design. In this paper, I discuss the design of my team's ethylene cracking plant and I also propose the design of plant-wide control systems to maintain the inventory of material and energy in the entire process. The final Aspen Plus simulation my team created for our senior design is included in the "Technological" section.

Raw Data Analysis and Pattern Recognition Term Project

CHE 4230: Advanced Process Controls

This paper was part of my term project in my Advanced Process Controls class. My group chose the topic of raw data analysis and pattern recognition and wrote code to evaluate the performance of several different dimensionality reduction and clustering methods on raw plant process data. The Python code we used in this project is included in the "Technological" section.

Blending Process Simulation and Control Term Project

CHE 4198: Process Dynamics

This paper was part of my term project in my Process Dynamics class. My group was tasked with simulating a blending process in the MATLAB Simulink environment, evaluating the dynamic process response to different process changes, and finally designing and implementing several different controllers in the process. My group chose to use three different methods of designing controllers and we evaluate their relative performance in our discussion section. The Simulink model we used for our work on this project is included in the "Technological" section.

Digital Co-op Portfolio

CHE 3249: Co-op in the Chemical Engineering Industry

This is a portfolio compiled for the purposes of CHE 3249: Co-op in the Chemical Engineering Industry, a course intended to provide students with a chance to expound and analyze co-op assignments and job experiences. This digital portfolio is used to showcase my work and to help convey the skills I acquired while in the co-op assignment.

This portfolio was compiled based on my co-op with ExxonMobil in the Fall 2019 semester.

Global Overall Heat Transfer Coefficient Dependence on Heat Exchanger Flow Rates Technical Paper

CHE 3104: Engineering Measurements Laboratory

This technical paper was from one experiment cycle of my junior lab focused on statistical analysis. My team was tasked with studying a finned shell-and-tube dual heat exchanger to determine the overall global heat transfer coefficient as a function of several process variables.  The collected data were examined to determine if there is a significant statistical dependence of the overall global heat transfer coefficient on any of the manipulated operating conditions and whether there is a theoretical model for heat transfer coefficients supported by the observed results.

Colonialism, Primitivism, and Picasso Research Paper

HNRS 2021: Colloquium in the Arts - Picasso

This research paper was from an honors class focused on studying the life and works of Pablo Picasso. The assignment was to investigate a work of art or body of work by Picasso from a concisely defined point of view. I decided to examine the effect that the European colonists’ discovery of “primitive” African art had on Picasso’s art and in turn the effect that Picasso’s African-inspired art had on the Western World.

Essays on Current Issues in Management

MGT 3200: Principles of Management

These research papers were from an honors option project in my Principles of Management class, taken for my Business Administration minor. The assignment requirement was two 5-page papers on pre-approved current topics or issues in management with suitable references. I decided to focus my research on very timely topics in management, diversity and inclusion in the workplace and remote workforce management.
